Who we are

Jumpstart is run by Kilter Creative, Inc.. We decide what happens to your information, and you can reach us at [email protected] about anything on this page.

The short version: we keep what we need to run the school, we never sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

What we keep

  • Your account: your name, email address, role and sign-in details.
  • Your profile, if you add them: a photo and a short bio.
  • Your learning: your courses, progress and certificates.
  • Your homework: the files you upload and the comments and notes on them.
  • Your community activity: messages, replies, reactions, direct messages, and anyone you block or report.
  • Your purchases: what you bought, when, the price, and where a plan stands. Card details go to Polar, never to us.
  • Emails you give us on a free lesson form or the career program interest list.
  • The emails we send you, and whether each one was delivered.
  • Sign-in attempts: the email and network address of each failed try.
  • Technical data, such as the pages requested and error reports, used to keep the site working and safe.

Why we keep it

  • To run the school: let you sign in, open your lessons on schedule, and track your progress.
  • To get your homework to your teachers and reviewers, and their feedback back to you.
  • To run the community and keep it safe.
  • To take payments, give refunds, and keep the records the law asks for.
  • To send the emails the school needs.
  • To answer you when you write to us.

Who helps us

A few providers run parts of the school for us. Each sees only what it needs for its job.

  • Polar: takes payments as our merchant of record, charges sales tax, sends receipts, and keeps the payment records.
  • Cloudflare: carries traffic to the site, protects it from attacks, and may count page visits without cookies.
  • A cloud hosting provider in the United States: holds the school's data and your files.
  • A video delivery provider: hosts and streams the lesson videos.
  • An email delivery provider: delivers our emails.
  • A cloud storage provider in the United States: stores copies of our data.

We share information with anyone else only when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

Who sees your work

  • Your homework: you, the teachers and reviewers of that course, and our staff. Your classmates see it only if you choose to share it.
  • Your name and photo: other people in your courses and in the community.
  • Your email address: our staff. Teachers see your name, not your email.
  • Direct messages: the two people in them. Staff look only when one of you reports a message.

Cookies

  • One cookie keeps you signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
  • Your browser: after a free lesson form, your browser remembers your name and email so the next free lesson skips the form. Clearing your browser data removes it.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and your work: for as long as your account is open.
  • Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
  • Everything else: as long as needed for its purpose, then deleted.

Your choices

You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to get a copy of your homework, or to delete your account. Email [email protected] from your account address and we will do it. Deleting an account removes your work and messages; we keep only the payment records the law requires.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under the law, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We would like the chance to put things right first.

Children

Students under 18 learn through an account that a parent or guardian makes and holds for them.

Nobody under 13 can have an account, and we do not knowingly keep information about children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

Keeping it safe

We use reasonable safeguards and limit access to the people who need it. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.

Where it is kept

Our servers are in the United States. Some of the providers above also work in other countries, so your information may travel between countries, always to do the jobs listed here.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email you first. The date at the top always shows the current version.
