Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Jumpstart, in plain words. Effective October 13, 2026.
Who we are
Jumpstart is an online school for creative careers. It is run by Kilter Creative, Inc. ("Jumpstart", "we" or "us").
These terms apply whenever you make an account, buy a course, or use the school. By doing any of those, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Jumpstart.
Your account
- You need to be at least 18 years old to have an account in your own name.
- If you are 13 to 17, a parent or guardian makes the account and holds it for you, and agrees to these terms for you.
- Nobody under 13 can have an account.
- One account per person. Please do not share your sign-in with anyone.
- Keep your password to yourself. If you think someone else has used your account, tell us at [email protected] so we can help secure it.
- Use your real name, or the name you go by. Teachers and classmates see it.
Buying a course
Prices are shown in US dollars on the course page and at checkout. Payments are handled by Polar, which acts as our reseller and merchant of record. Polar takes the payment, charges any sales tax, and sends your receipts. Polar's own terms apply to the payment itself.
- Pay in full, and the course is yours for life.
- Pay monthly, and your card is charged once a month for the number of payments shown at checkout. Then the plan stops by itself. Once every payment is made, the course is yours for life.
Lessons open on the schedule shown on the course page, counted from the day you enroll.
If a plan payment fails or a plan is cancelled
Nothing locks when a payment fails. You get 14 days of grace, your course stays open the whole time, and we email you with the date and how to fix it.
If the grace period ends and the plan is still unpaid, your access to the course, its homework and the community pauses. Your progress, homework, feedback and certificates are all kept. Pay what is owed, or restart the plan for the months left, and everything opens again.
If a payment is disputed with your bank (a chargeback), access pauses while it is looked into. Please write to us first. We would much rather sort it out with you.
Refunds
Ask for a refund in your first 14 days and you get your money back. A refund ends your access to that course. The details are in our Refund Policy.
What "yours for life" means
A course you have paid for stays in your account for as long as Jumpstart runs the school, including new lessons we add to it. If we ever have to close the school, we will email you at least 60 days before we do.
Homework and feedback
Real professionals review the homework you hand in. Your reviewer may be the course teacher or another Jumpstart instructor. We cannot promise the same person reviews every piece.
We show how long reviews usually take. Those are goals we work hard to meet, not guarantees.
Your work is yours
You own everything you make and upload. You give us permission to store it, to show it to your teachers and reviewers, and to show it to your classmates only when you choose to share it. Homework is private until you share it, and you can stop sharing at any time.
We will never use your work in our marketing without asking you first.
Our lessons are ours
The lessons, videos, notes, project files and image packs belong to Jumpstart or to the people who license them to us. They are for your own learning.
- Please do not copy, record, re-upload, share or sell them.
- The stock image packs that come with a course are licensed for your homework. Use them in the work you make for the course.
Community rules
The community is for learning together. Be kind, be useful, and give the kind of feedback you would like to get.
- No harassment, hate, threats or bullying.
- No sexual or violent content, and nothing illegal.
- No spam, selling or chasing people for work.
- No sharing someone else's private information or work without their permission.
Everyone can Block a person, and Report a message or ask for help. Reports go to our staff. We may remove messages, or pause someone's community access or account, when these rules are broken. If we close an account, we will tell the person why.
What we cannot promise
We teach skills and give honest feedback. We cannot promise a job, clients or income. That part depends on you, and on the world.
We work hard to keep the school running smoothly, but it may sometimes be slow or down for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
Limits on our responsibility
Jumpstart is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the law that cannot be taken away.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Tennessee, United States. If we ever disagree, please write to us first. Most things can be sorted out with a conversation.
